RSVP & the reading method
What is RSVP speed reading?
RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) shows one word—or a small chunk of words—at a time in a fixed spot on the screen. Your eyes stay roughly in one place instead of scanning lines left-to-right. That cuts saccades (eye jumps) and helps you keep a steady pace, which is useful for training speed and focus.
Is RSVP the same as skimming?
No. Skimming is jumping through a page to grab headings and keywords. RSVP presents every word in order at a set pace—you read the full text in sequence, just without traditional line layout.
What are WPM and “chunk size”?
WPM (words per minute) is how fast words appear. Higher WPM means a faster stream. Chunk size is how many words appear at once (e.g. one word vs. two or three). Larger chunks can feel closer to normal reading; single-word mode is the classic RSVP drill.
Will I understand everything at high speed?
Comprehension depends on the material, your familiarity with the topic, and practice. Start at a comfortable WPM and increase gradually. Dense technical or legal text may need a slower pace than light fiction or news.
How WPM Reader works
What can I read in WPM Reader?
You can add documents (e.g. text, PDF, DOCX where supported), paste or import text, and in many cases open a public article URL when the site allows it. Your library holds these items so you can reopen them and track progress.
Where is my library and progress stored?
Your account data (profile), documents metadata, reading sessions, and progress are stored in our backend on Supabase (hosted database with encryption in transit). We use industry-standard HTTPS. See the Privacy Policy for what we collect and from which third parties.
Do I need to be online?
Signing in and syncing your library require an internet connection. The reader experience is tied to loading your content from the service while you use the app in the browser.
What happens if I delete a document?
Removing a document from your library deletes it from your account’s stored content in the service (subject to normal backup and retention policies described in our privacy documentation). Download anything you need to keep locally before deleting.
Accounts & sign-in
How do I sign in?
We use Supabase Auth with social login providers (for example Google, Microsoft, X (Twitter), or Discord). You do not set a separate WPM Reader password for those methods—the provider handles authentication.
Why does one account show more than one provider?
If you sign in with different providers but the same verified email, our auth service may link those identities to one user. You can still sign in with any linked provider. If emails differ, separate accounts may be created.
How do I delete my account or export data?
Go to Profile in the app, scroll to Delete account, confirm the checkboxes, type delete as instructed, and submit. That removes your library, progress, sessions, and profile, and removes your sign-in with our auth provider when the operation completes successfully. For a portable copy of your data first, contact info@wpmreader.com. Rights and retention are described in the Privacy Policy.
Billing & plans
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The app offers a free tier; limits and paid features may change over time and are shown in the product. Paid plans, when available, are billed through Stripe as described in the Terms of Service.
Tips & troubleshooting
The reader feels too fast or I lose focus.
Lower WPM, try a slightly larger chunk size if your reader supports it, take breaks, and use shorter sessions. RSVP is a skill—short daily practice usually beats rare long sessions.
A link import failed or the article looks wrong.
Many sites block automated fetching, use paywalls, or load content with JavaScript in ways we cannot reproduce. Try a different public URL, paste the text manually, or upload a file export (PDF/DOCX) when the site allows it.
Who can I contact?
